Battery Fire Safety
Battery fire safety encompasses all structural, technical, and organizational measures that minimize a battery storage system's fire risk and limit damage if an incident occurs, such as separation distances, ventilation, suppression systems, and monitoring through the BMS. Current research shows sodium-ion cells have higher thermal stability than lithium-ion cells. In the event of thermal runaway, the behavior of sodium-based cells makes the process easier to control, thereby improving safety at the system level.
