Energy Trading (Arbitrage)

Energy trading (arbitrage) refers to deliberately taking advantage of fluctuating electricity prices: battery storage charges when electricity is cheap (for example overnight or during high renewable output) and discharges when prices rise. For businesses with their own battery storage, this can become an additional revenue stream alongside self-consumption and peak shaving. It typically requires direct or indirect access to the electricity market, for example through an energy trading partner.
