Unlike conventional lithium-ion batteries, the PHENOGY Series 1 follows a different approach to energy storage. By eliminating lithium, graphite, and cobalt the technology helps reduce the environmental footprint associated with battery production.

The absence of lithium and graphite is also relevant from a supply-chain perspective. Sodium is abundant and widely available. That makes sodium-ion an attractive alternative for future energy storage.

In 2025, PHENOGY commissioned a sodium-ion battery energy storage system in Bremen – the largest of its kind in Europe at the time. In other words: we don't just have a promising technology. We have a market-ready solution.
