Depth of Discharge (DoD)

Depth of discharge (DoD) indicates what percentage of a battery storage system's total capacity was actually used in a given cycle: discharging 90 kWh from a 100 kWh system corresponds to a DoD of 90 percent. A lower DoD per cycle is gentler on the cells and can increase cycle life, but reduces the amount of usable energy per cycle. Generally speaking, the recommended DoD for lithium-ion batteries is 80 to 90% without damaging the cells, while sodium-ion cells can be fully discharged without damage.
