Behind-the-Meter

Behind-the-meter (BTM) refers to energy assets, such as battery storage or solar, installed on the customer's side of the electricity meter, typically on-site at a business. The electricity generated or stored is used directly on site, without first flowing into the public grid. This distinguishes BTM systems from front-of-the-meter systems, which sit on the utility's side of the meter.
