PHENOGY Wins The smarter E AWARD 2026 in Energy Storage

The award recognizes PHENOGY’s 1 Series and highlights Europe’s first large-scale sodium-ion battery storage system as a milestone for resilient energy infrastructure.
PHENOGY has won The smarter E AWARD 2026 in the Energy Storage category, one of the energy industry’s most established distinctions for forward-looking storage solutions. The award honors the PHENOGY 1 Series, including PHENOGY 1.0 and PHENOGY 1.1, and recognizes the company’s contribution to a more resilient, decentralized and strategically independent energy future.
At the heart of this recognition is PHENOGY 1.0, Europe’s first large-scale sodium-ion battery energy storage system, which entered operation in Bremen and marked an important step for sodium-ion technology in real-world deployment. Together with PHENOGY 1.1, the cabinet-based system of the same product family, PHENOGY’s Series 1 demonstrates how sodium-ion storage can be scaled from local commercial applications to larger energy infrastructures.
The Energy Storage category of The smarter E AWARD recognizes pioneering products and solutions for stationary and mobile electricity storage. PHENOGY’s award underscores the growing relevance of storage systems that combine operational safety, resilient supply chains and practical scalability in a rapidly changing energy landscape.
PHENOGY Series 1: scalable sodium-ion storage for decentralized grids
PHENOGY 1.1 is designed for core commercial and industrial applications such as peak shaving, self-consumption optimization, microgrids and backup power. As part of the PHENOGY Series 1 family, it is the modular cabinet system within a sodium-ion platform that scales up to container-based solutions. Together, these systems support energy sovereignty, decentralization and the build-out of a more electrified economy.
“Being selected and honored by one of the world’s largest battery industry events is a tremendous achievement and a strong validation of what we are building,” said Peter E. Braun, CEO and Co-Founder of PHENOGY AG. “We see this award as recognition of the role sodium-ion storage plays in the energy transition: strengthening resilience, reducing strategic dependencies and supporting the build-out of decentralized energy systems across Europe.”
The award comes at a time when Europe is looking for storage technologies that can reduce strategic dependencies, expand resilient local energy systems and turn innovation into practical deployment. With the PHENOGY 1 Series, PHENOGY is advancing a sodium-ion platform that links safety, modularity and industrial scalability in one coherent approach.
PHENOGY is presenting its award-winning storage solutions at The smarter E Europe 2026 in Munich from 23 to 25 June at booth C3.514.
